AMA 11th Style

This guide will provide general information about citing in AMA style as based on the 11th edition of the manual.

Overview

AMA Style is a variation of the Vancouver system that is used by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and other publications by the American Medical Association. Noorda-COM uses the 11th and most current edition of the manual.

AMA Style is a documentary-note style, which means you use superscript numbers in text to cite sources of information. References are given a single number that is used each time the source is cited, and the reference list is in numerical rather than alphabetical order.

This guide is intended as a resource for students, faculty, and staff of Noorda-COM. It is not intended to take the place of the AMA Manual of Style, 11th editionPlease always reference the official manual for comprehensive information on proper citations and formatting of papers in AMA Style.

See Formatting and Citing Sources pages for more detailed instruction.
